Different exhibitions have different takes on arts and this unique exhibition at the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation has something unique to offer—the relation between water, art, and Islam in a unique manner.
Bringing the best of water, art, and Islam together, the exhibition Drop by Drop Life Falls from the Sky: Water, Islam and Art, the show will feature 120 artworks and objects that provide insights into the importance of water in Islam, not only for cleansings but also its symbolic significance as written in the Holy Quran.
Scheduled from June 9 to December 11, 2021, the Sharjah Museums Authority has teamed up with Fondazione Torino Musei to launch the exhibition, in the first-ever collaboration between the cities of Sharjah and Turin.
The exhibition will have four themes and will explore the blessings of water and Islam, water, and daily life, traditional hammam and gardens.
The exhibition will have objects from 16 renowned Italian public and private collections and the collections of Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilisation and Sharjah Art Museum, including a range from manuscripts, metalwork, pottery, glass, textiles, carpets, stones linked to Islamic art.
Among the pieces on display is a 19th-century Ottoman bowl, acquired during Ottoman rule in the Balkans, echoes traditions from the Byzantine world, Venice, and Northern Europe. Another item is a large circular Basin with inscriptions glorifying the victories of Sultan Al Malik Al Nasir Muhammad Ibn Qalawun.
The garden section will explore the impressive example of a water fountain from Ghazni in Afghanistan, sculpted out of marble with geometrical and arabesques decoration.
Additionally, there would be a 300-page catalogue, available in Arabic, English and Italian that contains more than 120 colour illustration and essays on the subjects explored in the show.
