Gulf News: New Dubai law targets safer, higher-quality buildings and stronger maintenance standards

Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a new law aimed at strengthening the quality, safety, and sustainability of buildings across the emirate.

The legislation seeks to ensure that buildings in Dubai maintain high levels of structural integrity while undergoing regular maintenance to support the safe operation of all building systems.

It also aims to improve the overall quality of the built environment by enhancing occupant comfort, reducing the risk of accidents, safeguarding lives and property, and preserving the emirate’s distinctive urban identity and architectural character.

Under the law, Dubai Municipality will oversee the implementation of building safety measures.

The municipality will manage a digital monitoring system and develop a unified database covering buildings across the emirate, alongside conducting routine inspections to ensure compliance with safety, maintenance and operational standards.
