The Israel-Palestine war has taken a new turn. As per reports, over 10,500 people have died, with over 4,000 being children. As par of calling for a ceasefire, people in the US organized a shutdown, to draw attention to the ongoing catastrophe. On Twitter, too, #Shutitdown4Palestine began to trend, with clips and images of people protesting for the cause began to spread.
The action was called by an organisation of the same name, which urged people to protest until there is ceasefire. As per their website, they shared a statement: "We must keep building momentum and increase the pressure with more marches, walk-outs, sit-ins, and other forms of direct action directed at the political offices, businesses, and workplaces that fund, invest, and collaborate with Israeli genocide and occupation."
In the US, for instance, people peacefully protested in front of government buildings, educational institutions, and public places, pressuring authorities for a ceasefire. The call for protest was also shared with people residing outside the country.
As per Al Jazeera, Israel has agreed to a four-hour ceasefire, until to allow Palestinians to evacuate Israel-Hamas clashes in the northern region. says the White House. John Kirby, US National Security Council spokesperson, revealed that this is the first humanitarian ceasefire, which will begin on Thursday. This pause will be announced three hours in advance.
While this is only for three days, Joe Biden said that he has asked Israel to give evacuation some more time. Reports of a Al-Shifa, Al-Awad, and Al-Quds vicinity being bombed has also been reported by local media. Moreover, some parts of the West Bank are also seeing a rise in violent attacks on Palestinians, refugee camps, as well as some local residents.
