The device introduced by a French startup, uses a 360 degree camera to capture people and transport them to another place.

The notion that today's science fiction can be tomorrow's science fact, seems even more realistic in the light of innovation like smartphones or gadgets we use in everyday life, miraculous medtech tools and incredibly human-like robots. The way innovation was accelerated during the pandemic, also inspired talented young inventors to dream big, and explore concepts which were restricted to vivid imagination till a few years back.

Following the past couple of years riddled with uncertainty, travel restrictions and the fear of another outbreak, travelling back in time or just hitching a ride to the future seem like attractive options to get out of this deadlock. Although such ideas may appear too far fetched, a French startup has stepped forward to transport people into a different decade, so that they can be part of iconic events like concerts or political movements.

Branded as Voyager by its makers at Immertech, the teleportation device takes people to different locations across the globe, apart from sending them to historic incidents caught on film over the past several decades. The mechanism simply uses a 360 degree camera to capture an individual in high definition, before projecting them to any place at a distance, thanks to a patented algorithm.

In addition to entertainment, the immersive tech can also be used for industries like construction or the mining and energy sectors, to facilitate site visits and maintenance ops remotely. A large number of people can also be teleported to different places or timelines, but for Expo 2020, the capsules are taking four people on board at a time.

Months of lockdown and the limitation on movement that followed, have given rise to virtual tourism, as global netizens can now visit ancient sites in the Middle East online. Amidst these developments, the Voyager is driven by a vision to create a futuristic mode of transportation, which allows people to travel without boundaries.

Following the tremendous popularity of video conferencing to reach colleagues or family and friends in the age of social distancing, the gadget that projects people to another place, can also enhance visual communication.
