Sheikh Hamdan said that the ‘megaproject’ would benefit up to 1.5 million people. Colourful murals and elaborate decorations on roundabouts are featured on the road.
The Crown Prince of Dubai posted a video on his social media and captioned it, “Today we officially launched the Dubai-Al Ain Road Development Project. This AED 2 billion mega project will benefit 1.5 million residents. Our goal is to turn Dubai into the world’s top city in urban planning.”
“Dubai continues to advance the implementation of infrastructure development plans aimed at enhancing human welfare and catalysing sustainable economic growth,” Sheikh Hamdan said in a press conference.
“It is also part of our border strategy to transform Dubai into the world’s best place to live, work and visit as well as strengthen our readiness to meet future needs in one of the fastest growing cities worldwide.”
As quoted by the National News, the Dubai-Al Ain Road Improvement Project spans 17 kilometers from the intersection of Emirates Road to the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road along the Dubai-Al Ain Road.
The new improvements serve 25 universities and colleges and it will double the road intake in both directions from 12,000 to 24,000 vehicles per hour.
The improvements will also slash the time of travelling from intersections including Dubai-Al Ain Road, Ras Al Khor Road and Emirates Road during the peak hours.
