Mashable: WhatsApp continues to introduce new features, first making them available to beta testers. The platform recently launched its iPad app after beta testing it for two long years. Now, a report from Android Authority suggests that WhatsApp is working to simplify the logout option.

For context, WhatsApp’s current logout process is unusual. While you can log out of WhatsApp on linked devices, there’s no option to do so on your primary device. The only available option is to delete your account, which erases all your data and removes you from all groups. However, that may soon change.

The report from Android Authority, in collaboration with tipster AssembleDebug, reveals that the WhatsApp beta release (version 2.25.17.37) for Android includes a logout option. The option is available under the Account section in WhatsApp settings. Tapping the logout button opens a dialog box with two options: Erase all data and preferences and Keep all data and preferences.

The Erase all data and preferences option is similar to uninstalling WhatsApp—it logs you out and deletes app data and preferences. Meanwhile, the Keep all data and preferences option allows you to log off from WhatsApp just as you can on Facebook or Instagram. This option preserves all your data, group chats, and preferences, meaning that whenever you log back in, everything will remain exactly as you left it.

The logout option currently displays an “internal” badge, suggesting it is being tested within the WhatsApp development team. A beta release for the public is expected soon, followed by the final rollout.
