Mashable: The hackers who call themselves "AgainstTheWest" claim they were also successful in obtaining data from the Chinese messaging app WeChat.
TikTok has denied claims that its database, which has useful information and source code, had been hacked. TikTok's response was that its staff "found no signs of a security breach."
Bleeping Computer said that hackers had posted screenshots of the supposed database to an online hacking forum. They claimed to have gotten to the information by breaking into a TikTok server. People say that the server's over 790GB of storage space is full of user records, platform statistics, source code, and other things.
TikTok spokeswoman Maureen Shanahan told The Verge that the company has confirmed that the data samples in the issue were available to the public and were not the result of a breach in TikTok's systems, networks, or databases. We care about the safety of our global community and don't think that our users need to do anything special to stay safe.
This is so far pretty inconclusive; some data matches production info, albeit publicly accessible info. Some data is junk, but it could be non-production or test data. It's a bit of a mixed bag so far.

Most of what was supposedly stolen seemed to be information that was readily accessible to anyone on the platform. Troy Hunt, a regional director at Microsoft and the creator of the Have I Been Pwned tool, said that the information the hackers got was "inconclusive," but he thought that "it may be non-production or test material" that wasn't hacked.
The hackers who call themselves "AgainstTheWest" claim they were also successful in obtaining data from the Chinese messaging app WeChat.
Since ByteDance, the company that owns TikTok, is based in China, the app's connection to China has been criticized, repeatedly. In response to recent news that Chinese TikTok employees have access to the personal information of American users, the company has taken a number of steps, such as putting the information of American users on servers in the United States that are run by Oracle.
