Mashable: When a user blocks or mutes another user, Twitter will show a list of third-party apps as a recommendation.
Twitter is enlisting the help of third-party developers to combat harassment on its site. Users will be given the option to use third-party moderation apps in conjunction with the app's built-in tools as part of an ongoing trial by the company.
When a user blocks or mutes another user, Twitter will show a list of third-party apps as a recommendation. This was first reported by TechCrunch. Bodyguard can automatically moderate replies, and Moderate helps users manage their mentions. Block Party is a tool that allows people to automatically block accounts that are likely to be harassing.
Although these tools have long been available, they had to be manually set up by Twitter users. In addition to its own blocking and muting tools, the company is now recommending these services in its app and website.
Additionally, the change is a sign that Twitter has mended fences with third-party developers, with whom it has had a rocky history. Twitter is promoting a variety of third-party services as part of its redesigned developer platform, including the moderation apps. Twitter told TechCrunch that in the future, it may recommend other specialized apps in various parts of its service, but it did not provide any additional information.
