https://www.arabianbusiness.com/ :UAE car buyers increased their interest in hybrid and electric vehicle listings during August 2026, led by Toyota, Tesla and BYD.
Dubizzle marketplace data recorded higher ad views across hybrid sedans, SUVs, performance cars and battery electric vehicles. Toyota secured the strongest gains across the hybrid vehicles analysed. Tesla recorded the highest EV viewing volume.
Buyer activity also coincides with continued expansion of Dubai’s electric vehicle charging network. DEWA recorded 2,223 charging points across the emirate by the end of Q1 2026.
Toyota hybrid listings record broad gains
Toyota occupied all five hybrid positions, recording the largest increases in ad views during August.
Toyota Camry listings generated more than 102,000 views, representing a 25 per cent increase. Corolla Cross listings exceeded 81,000 views, up 20 per cent.
Toyota Corolla recorded more than 53,000 views after engagement increased 35 per cent. Highlander listings passed 51,000 views, representing growth of 21 per cent.
Toyota Crown delivered the largest percentage increase among the five vehicles. Views climbed 54 per cent to more than 29,000.
Activity extended across several vehicle categories rather than concentrating on one body style. Camry and Corolla serve the sedan segment. Corolla Cross and Highlander cover SUV demand, while Crown occupies a higher-priced category.
Marketplace activity indicates buyers are comparing hybrid drivetrains across practical family cars, larger SUVs and premium vehicles. Fuel consumption and ownership costs form part of those purchase calculations.
The September report, based on dubizzle’s August data, confirms the same viewing figures across Toyota’s hybrid range.
Tesla and BYD widen electric vehicle choice
Tesla Model Y generated more than 88,000 ad views, giving it the highest viewing volume among electric vehicles analysed by dubizzle.
Audi RS e tron GT, BYD Seal, BYD Atto 3 and Tesla Model X also recorded increased marketplace engagement during the period.
Those vehicles cover distinct sections of the UAE car market. Model Y targets the electric SUV category, while BYD offers vehicles across mainstream sedan and crossover segments.
Audi’s RS e-tron GT adds a high-performance premium option. Tesla Model X serves buyers seeking a larger electric SUV.
Wider product availability gives used car buyers more electric vehicle configurations to compare. Battery range, charging access, purchase price and daily mileage remain central ownership considerations.
Sherif Magdy, Director of Sales at dubizzle Cars, said consumer behaviour increasingly places electrified vehicles within broader purchase comparisons.
“What’s changing in the UAE is not simply the number of electric and hybrid vehicles available, but the way consumers are considering them. They are increasingly being evaluated alongside conventional petrol cars rather than as a separate category.”
Dubai expands charging capacity as EV numbers rise
Dubai recorded 47,944 electric vehicles by the end of 2025, according to DEWA. That compares with 37,486 at the end of 2024.
Registered EV numbers consequently increased by more than 10,000 vehicles within a year, equivalent to 27.9 per cent growth.
Charging capacity expanded alongside that vehicle population.
Dubai had 1,864 public charging points at the end of 2025. DEWA and licensed third-party charge point operators supplied that network.
Charging availability reached 2,223 points by the end of Q1 2026. That added 359 charging points within one quarter, increasing available capacity by about 19 per cent.
DEWA also recorded more than 23,600 Green Charger users by mid January 2026. Customers can access charging stations operated directly by DEWA and infrastructure supplied by licensed operators.
Used car buyers gain more powertrain options
Hybrid vehicles give UAE motorists a route to lower fuel consumption without depending entirely on charging infrastructure.
Battery electric vehicles serve a different ownership profile. Expanding public charging capacity increases the number of locations available to drivers who cannot rely solely on home charging.
Dubizzle’s August figures place both technologies within active used car searches rather than isolated specialist categories.
Toyota’s hybrid viewing volumes show established manufacturers retaining strong consumer attention as drivetrain choices expand. Tesla, BYD and Audi activity adds greater variety across the electric segment.
UAE used car buyers consequently face a broader mix of petrol, hybrid and battery electric vehicles across multiple price bands and body styles.
Marketplace engagement does not directly measure completed sales. It does record which vehicles consumers are researching and comparing before purchase.
August activity indicates hybrids and EVs are securing a larger position within that consideration process as vehicle supply and charging capacity expand.
