Zayed Humanitarian Day marks a significant occasion to commemorate the enduring legacy of the late UAE Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as stated by the chairman of Emirates Red Crescent.

Observed on the 19th day of Ramadan, this day also coincides with the anniversary of Sheikh Zayed's passing in 2004.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and chairman of Emirates Red Crescent, remarked, "While we have lost the champion of humanity, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, we renew our pledge and loyalty on the anniversary of his passing to continue his humanitarian legacy," as reported by the state news agency Wam.

He emphasised that the UAE remains steadfast in honouring Sheikh Zayed's humanitarian principles and commitment to alleviating global suffering.

"For us at the ERC, the Zayed Humanitarian Day serves as a moment of reflection on our journey, assessing our progress, and propelling it forward," Sheikh Hamdan added.

The UAE's philanthropic initiatives, reflecting Sheikh Zayed's ethos, include The Mothers' Endowment campaign launched during Ramadan and an education fund by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, which has raised Dh770 million within two weeks.

Additionally, the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, launched this month, aims to address global water scarcity issues.

Sheikh Zayed's contributions are commemorated annually on Ramadan 19 through Zayed Humanitarian Day, honouring his philanthropic vision that has inspired generations of Emiratis.

His leadership led to the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Development Fund in 1971 and the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation in 1992. These institutions continue to uphold his legacy of humanitarianism and service.
