Mashable: Sheikh Mohamed directs humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed has ordered humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
The aid will reportedly be channelled through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine refugees in the Near East.
Meanwhile, UAE’s aid comes as part of the Emirates’ policy to provide urgent relief and assistance in times of crisis to those in need around the world as well as to vulnerable populations.
Over the past few days, the Emirates has also expressed concerns about the impact of the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine. The Gulf nation has also stressed the importance of preserving the lives of civilians.
The UN has reportedly estimated that more than 263,000 people are displaced in Gaza, meaning they were forced to flee their homes. The UN humanitarian agency OCHA has also warned that the number is expected to rise.
As per the National News, OCHA, citing Palestinian authorities revealed that more than 1,000 housing units have been destroyed, and over 560 homes have been severely damaged.
The Israel-Hamas war that began on October 7, 2023, resulted in major loss of lives including children. The death toll on both sides has reportedly risen to above 2,000.
