Mashable: UAE authorities share advisory on social media

Residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will begin their New Year 2024 with a long weekend.

The beginning of the New Year 2024 got more exciting as the residents of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will get a holiday on Monday, January 1, 2024.

As the year 2023 is coming to an end, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a 3-day weekend for public and private sector employees.

On Thursday, December 21, 2023, UAE authorities shared an advisory on the social media platform X for the New Year 2024 holiday.

The New Year holiday announcement for public sector employees came through a circular issued by The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, declaring January 1, 2024, Monday, as a holiday.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced a New Year’s Day paid holiday for all private sector employees in UAE.

As private sector employees in the UAE have working days off on Saturday and Sunday, the New Year’s Day holiday on Monday will make it a 3-day weekend. Residents will return to work on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.

UAE residents can also expect at least thirteen holidays in the coming year, according to the announcement made by the UAE cabinet.

In November 2023, the UAE cabinet approved an official holiday calendar for government and private sectors for the next year. Four of seven official holiday occasions for government and private sectors could translate into long weekends, with the longest being the Eid Al-Fitr 2024 break for six days.
