Mashable: The Dubai Astronomy Group has arranged a special viewing event at the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre.

An extraordinary celestial event is set to grace the skies above the U.A.E. this Thursday, offering residents a rare celestial spectacle. Known as a Blue Supermoon, this phenomenon occurs when a second full moon appears within a single calendar month, a sight that emerges approximately every two years, often described as "once in a blue moon." The next Blue Supermoon won't grace the sky until May 31, 2026.

Contrary to its name, the term 'Blue Supermoon' has no connection to the moon's color. Instead, it signifies the infrequency of its occurrence, happening roughly once every 2.7 years, rendering it a relatively uncommon event, according to insights from the Dubai Astronomy Group. The moon is expected to become visible across the U.A.E. starting at 7 pm, its presence is more pronounced in areas distant from light pollution.

For avid stargazers, the Dubai Astronomy Group has arranged a special viewing event at the Al Thuraya Astronomy Centre located in Dubai's Al Mushrif Park, with tickets available at Dh60.

This captivating event is not the sole astronomical highlight of the month. Recently, skywatchers were treated to a Saturn opposition, where Saturn and the Sun aligned in opposition, resulting in Saturn appearing exceptionally luminous. This alignment enhanced the visibility of Saturn's iconic ring system and its accompanying moons.

Adding to the celestial extravaganza, the coming week could offer UAE residents the opportunity to witness Comet Nishimura. Initially spotted by amateur Japanese astronomer Hideo Nishimura on August 11 and 12 using a standard digital camera, the details surrounding this interstellar object remain limited. Nevertheless, its luminosity is predicted to intensify as it journeys closer to the Sun. NASA that the comet may be visible to the naked eye next week, eliminating the need for telescopic equipment.
