Waterfall, long beaches and more: Sheikh Mohammed announces ambitious Palm Jebel Ali mega project

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has announced a new project: expanding the iconic Palm Jebel Ali.

According to The Khaleej Times, the destination will become twice its usual size, which Sheikh Mohammed believes will make Dubai "the most beautiful city in the world". The plan also includes expanding the beaches up to 110km. With this initiative, the ruler intends to “double Dubai's economy by 2033.”

Dubai has multiple manmade islands, but the most distinguished one are the Palm Jumeirah and Palm Jebel Ali. Both are designed like a palm tree, and are deemed as architectural wonders located in the sea.
So what will the project entail?

Well, for starters, Dubai will get better biodiversity. With the expanded coastline, Palm Jabel Ali will get waterfalls, extensive green spaces and other waterfront experiences.

The plan also ensures that the city can accommodate more ex-pats, with plans to make the luxurious beachside home for approximately 35,000 families. The project aims to build more than 80 hotels and resorts on the island, which can help to get more tourists to Dubai.

Additionally, the plans intends to feature walkable neighbourhoods, smart city technologies and sustainability practices. There will also be a range of transporat for residents and visitors. To make it sustainable, 30 per cent of Palm Jabel Ali’s energy requirements will be met through renewable sources.

The project will be developed by Nakheel, one of Dubai’s most renowned real estate company. The new endeavour hopes to expand on the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which aims to make the city one of the world’s places for business and tourism. This initiative will also grow the corridor in the Jebel Ali area, which will highlight the expansion of the Emirate.
