Pinterest revealed it now has 200 million MAUs. That’s only 50 million more than a year ago. Is it growing fast enough to survive?
The news was shared by co-founder Evan Sharp himself in a blog post. Pinterest was launched seven years ago but its growth has not been as spectacular as other well-known social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram to only name a few.
Over the past year, the platform has grown by roughly 40%. Of course, Pinterest continues to be proud that more than half of all “Pinners” live outside of the U.S. – with 75% of its recent signups coming from other countries. But most importantly, its growth is largely lead by mobile: over 85% of searches are now coming from mobile devices.
Another big stat for the company is that the platform now counts over 100 billion pins. This definitely makes it one of the largest collection of ideas on the Internet.
New Features Are Coming
Sharp also commented on some new features that are coming soon on Pinterest. “Board sections” are already under testing and should be released over the coming weeks. This new feature will basically let you create boards within boards.
Pinterest is also looking for more people to test new ideas. It will be an invite-only recruitment but selected Winners will get access to some of the platform’s most highly anticipated and requested features before anyone else.
