Mashable: WhatsApp has recently announced its decision to cease support for devices operating on Android OS versions below 5.0.
WhatsApp regularly updates its iOS and Android applications, incorporating novel functionalities periodically. However, it also discontinues support for numerous devices after a certain period. WhatsApp has recently announced its decision to cease support for devices operating on Android OS versions below 5.0. The company justifies this action by highlighting that outdated and less frequently utilized phones will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp.
Android phones running on operating system version 4.1 and above, iPhones with iOS 12 and later, and phones equipped with KaiOS 2.5.0 and above, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2, are compatible with the messaging platform.
To determine the Android operating system version of your phone, navigate to the Phone Settings, select About phone, and then choose Software information. It is important to note that if your smartphone is operating on Android 4.0 or an earlier version, support for the messaging platform will cease on that device in October.
To verify the iOS version on your smartphone, simply navigate to the general settings and select the About option.
WhatsApp will provide advance notification to the user regarding the impending cessation of support for the device's operating system. Additionally, users will receive a reminder to upgrade their device. Notable devices that will no longer be supported by WhatsApp include the HTC Onem, Sony Xperia Z, LG Optimus G Pro, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC Sensation, Motorola Droid Razr, Sony Xperia S2, and others.
In addition, WhatsApp has been reported that WhatsApp is planning to introduce a novel functionality on iOS, which empowers community administrators to designate individuals with the privilege of adding members to group chats within their respective communities. This feature bestows upon administrators enhanced control over the management of their communities. To enable this feature, community administrators can navigate to the community settings screen and activate the corresponding option.
