In recognition of the increasingly challenging business and legal environment in China, Yahoo’s suite of services will no longer be accessible.
Yahoo the company which is known for its wide range of services has recently announced that it’s suspending the Yahoo products and services from China, but it was noted that some services are still working in the country like mailboxes and more. In the latest development, the company has revealed that Yahoo will stop all the services in mainland China on February 28 and post that users will not be able to send or receive emails.
Yahoo took this decision back in November after Google and Microsoft make an exit from the country. The reason behind leaving China is the communist government and their investigation on the data collection.
Yahoo shared a brief note informing all the users that “Yahoo’s suite of services will unfortunately no longer be accessible for mainland China.” The note suggests users download their important data before the services go offline.
“In recognition of the increasingly challenging business and legal environment in China, Yahoo’s suite of services will no longer be accessible from mainland China as of November 1,” the company said in a statement at the time of the first announcement back in 2021.
Once Yahoo was the world’s first portal to offer search engines with operations in around 24 countries, later it was surpassed by Google back in the 1990s. In 1999 Yahoo entered the Chinese market and it was acquired by Alibaba group in 2005. It seems there is no opportunity for Yahoo in China in terms of investment and expansion and that could also be a reason for the exit.
