Mashable: The United Arab Emirates is planning to build the world’s second Sphere in its capital after the first giant dome was opened in Las Vegas last year. Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism and Sphere Entertainment Co. officially confirmed the development, announcing its plan on Tuesday.
It is suggested Abu Dhabi is set to pay a franchise fee to Sphere Entertainment to use its design and the government will also pay to build the giant entertainment dome including the annual fees required for its creative and artistic content.
It is important to note the announcement offered no insights into the financial aspect of the project. Additionally, several details regarding the world’s second Sphere remain unclear yet.
When it comes to the Las Vegas Sphere, it is an 18,000-seat iconic music and entertainment arena, with its exterior completely covered in LED screens that turn into different colours, even flash up QR codes, and occasionally transform into a giant emoji face, leering over the Las Vegas strip.
The interior of the concert hall is completely covered in LED screens, too. They stretch out far above the band and over the audience’s heads, the better to provide a sequence of genuinely astonishing visual effects.
So, Middle East, are you ready to get one of your own?
