Mashable: The latest additions to Instagram's DM include the ability to edit messages, chat pinning, read receipts controls, and more.
Instagram has introduced a range of fresh enhancements to its Direct Messaging (DM) section, aiming to enhance private conversations and provide a more personalized experience. The latest additions to Instagram's DM include the ability to edit messages, chat pinning, read receipts controls, and more.
Additionally, Meta's recently launched social media platform, Threads, has also received new gesture-based controls for its application. It is worth mentioning that these new features were introduced shortly after Instagram introduced a lock screen widget for iOS, enabling users to swiftly capture photos or record videos for Stories.
The new features were unveiled by the social media platform through a blog post, emphasizing the significance of private messaging as a primary means for users to interact on a daily basis. These enhancements are designed to enhance the overall user experience. Among the standout features is the ability to edit messages.
Following in the footsteps of WhatsApp, another platform owned by Meta, Instagram will now permit users to edit a message within 15 minutes of sending it. To edit a message, users must press and hold the sent message, then choose 'edit' from the dropdown menu that appears.
Rearranging conversations at the top of the inbox is also being adjusted. Users now have the ability to pin up to three chats, whether they are group or individual, for convenient access. To pin a chat, swipe left or long-press on a chat in the inbox screen, then choose the pin option.
With this latest update, users will have enhanced control over read receipts, thereby ensuring greater privacy on the platform. Users now have the option to disable read receipts for all chats or selectively for a few.
The process is straightforward. To disable read receipts for all chats, navigate to Account Settings > Messages and story replies > Show read receipts, and simply toggle the option on or off.
For individual chats, users can easily turn off read receipts by accessing the specific chat where they wish to disable them. Simply tap on their name and select Privacy and safety. In the list, locate the Read receipts option and toggle it off. These controls function identically on both Android and iOS platforms.
