Mashable: Culture In the stillness of Friday midnight, a subtle shake beneath the ground gently stirred parts of the UAE. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) confirmed that a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck the AI Sila’a region in Abu Dhabi just as the clock struck 12.
Fortunately, the tremor, though perceptible to some residents, caused no harm or disruption. With its epicenter located 3 kilometers beneath the Earth’s surface, the seismic event was categorized as minor and had no impact on infrastructure or daily life. Despite its relatively low magnitude, sensitive instruments from the NCM’s National Seismic Network swiftly picked up the tremor, prompting an immediate update to the public. This wasn’t the only seismic movement felt in the country this week.
Just a few days prior, Khor Fakkan on the east coast experienced a mild 2.0-magnitude quake around 8:35 pm on Tuesday. Like Friday’s event, it was shallow—only 5 kilometers deep—and lightly felt, mostly serving as a brief curiosity for residents rather than a concern. Adding to the regional seismic activity, a stronger earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitude struck southwestern Iran earlier the same day, at 9:06 am UAE time. Although significantly deeper, at 10 kilometers below the surface, the tremor’s effects remained largely contained, with only faint vibrations reported in parts of northern UAE.
