https://whatson.ae/ :The Dubai Creek Lights project was first announced back in June 2026, and now plans are moving ahead to give one of Dubai’s oldest landmarks a dazzling after-dark makeover. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has issued directives to begin its implementation, bringing the ambitious project one step closer to reality.

The project, backed by an investment of Dhs80 million, will create an integrated visual and urban experience spanning eight kilometres of Dubai Creek. The project will bring Dubai Creek’s heritage, architecture and cultural identity to life, enhancing its appeal as a must-visit nighttime destination.

The initiative is part of Dubai Municipality’s continued work to transform Dubai’s public spaces and landmarks, creating more memorable experiences. It will shine a light on the Creek’s heritage through a distinctive nighttime experience, highlighting its landmarks and bringing greater vibrancy to its waterfronts and public spaces after sunset.

The announcement comes after Dubai was crowned the World’s Most Beautiful City at Night for 2026, with a global study recognising the city’s safe, vibrant after-dark experiences; diverse attractions; public spaces; and striking urban landscape.

Here’s what we can expect from the Dubai Creek Lights project
The project will span six key areas and will feature more than 5,000 lighting units, which will be visible from more than 1,500 feet above ground level. The areas include Creek Quay, the Creek Promenade at the Gold Souq, the Creek entrance at Infinity Bridge, Al Shindagha Historic District, Bur Dubai Souq, and Al Seef Marina – all of which will be illuminated using an innovative lighting system.

And of course, Dubai is keeping sustainability in mind by using sustainable lighting solutions which will minimise environmental impacts on marine life.

More upgrades will be made to the lighting of promenades, Creek entrances, building façades and waterfront walkways.

According to His Excellency Eng. Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, “Dubai Creek has served throughout the emirate’s history as a vital artery for trade and commerce and as the starting point of Dubai’s urban and economic development. It remains a landmark that has witnessed defining moments in the city’s growth and transformation.”

He added that through the Dubai Creek Lights project, ‘we are bringing part of that journey back to life along its banks’.

He also remarked that the project reflects the municipality’s commitment to making Dubai the world’s most beautiful and attractive city through an urban vision that preserves local identity while embracing advanced urban solutions

Inspired by the Creek’s historic role as a guiding light for traditional trading dhows, the project will bring a modern glow to the waterfront, creating a new nighttime experience in the heart of Dubai. The Dubai Creek Lights project is expected to be completed in Q1 2027.
